The shun classic 4-inch paring knife is a pro at paring, coring and garnishing fruits and vegetables. This small blade is incredibly sharp, easily cutting through tough fruit skin without tearing up the delicate fruit beneath. Ultra-thin and incredibly sharp, shun classic knife blades feature a 16-degree blade angle making the blade flexible, but much sharper than traditional western knives. Crafted in seki city Japan, The shun classics are forged in the tradition of samurai sword making and are known world-wide for their incredible edge-retention. Each blade has a core of vg-10-inch super steel-inch with a pattern damascus cladding of 32 layers of high-carbon stainless steel-16 layers on either side. The ebony d-shaped Packwood handle in reverse-grip has that sleek, sophisticated look that makes these knives feel more like art, than instrument. The d-shape fits naturally in the hand, for a comfortable grip, regardless of the length of the cutting task at hand. This wood-grain pattern not only enhances the knife's beauty, it also adds durability and stain resistance, and reduces friction when cutting. These heirloom quality knives will be a prized treasure you'll want to pass down to family for generations.

Excellent all-around knife
I use this knife as my go-to for deboning a whole, raw chicken. The knuckle part glides around/through joints, and the part towards the end gives me fine control so I don't puncture the skin. It also works well for chunking light veggies/fruits (or getting orange/lemon zest off lightly), but there are much better options for dedicated dicing/mincing and chopping. All around, a very good knife for doing some fine knife work on meat or vegetable matter. I generally have this knife out with any other knife during my cooking experiments.

Great knife
This knife and all the Shuns I've bought are crazy sharp, keep their edge, and are great to work with in your kitchen. They slice tomatoes like butter. The weight of the knife will almost slice through an onion. I had mostly Hinkle knives and the Shun knives make the others seem dull. I have now bough several of different sizes and love them all.

Great, once you get used to it.
Shun makes the best kitchen knives outside of hand crafted japanese knives. This has a bit of an odd shape but once you get used to it, it really is the perfect paring knife.

Excellent design
Very sharp and I like the curve in the middle. It's perfect for cutting round foods such as apples and avocados but also suitable for anything that only requires a small knife. I recommend this product.

Great gift for a beginning Chef
My daughter is an up and coming Chef and this was a gift to her. She loves this knife. It comes with only a cardboard sheath, so you'll want to buy a knife cover even if you plan on putting it in a knife bag. It's very sharp and well balanced. Since she just got the knife, I don't know yet how long it will stay sharp. Great value.
