Child's Play (DVD) [2019]

Mild spoilers ahead.I have watched the original 'Chucky/Child'sPlay' and admittedly I was never convinced by it. The hocus pocus magic voodoo nonsense always rubbed me the wrong way, and at times the movie got so ridiculous that it was more funny than scary, and it was much more of a brain dead slash-horror than anything to note. I watched it, and that was that. Then I heard about this, and instantly jumped at the idea they'd hatched. A.I. No magic, no nonsense, just good old fashioned realism - what's peppering our society and our lives more and more – of how everything is being seamlessly connected wirelessly these days, and this movie brought this up.This retelling of the Chucky movie is much more story driven. You care about the characters. They're more compelling, easier to get behind, and on many guilty occasions I felt sympathy for Chucky. I wasn’t so sure about his redesign at first but I soon forgot about it after the first 15 minutes. His design is much better suited to robotic commercialism. Big eyes, expressive face. And I’ve got to credit them for using practical effects, with barely any use of CGI which I thoroughly appreciated. I liked that he was broken. That he wanted to be loved.The new Chucky doll is more connected to his owner, and his actions carry weight.And due to Chucky’s lack of weight and height, he had to be clever and use other means to bring down those he saw as a threat. There was purpose behind his motivation, unlike the original where he killed just because he was well... a killer. There was nothing else to it. This movie has taken it in an entirely new direction and I love it.And its the first doll horror movie where it’s actually the doll. Not some demon. Not silly magic voodoo. Not some creepy boy in an attic. It’s the actual toy.And the music? Amazing, atmospheric and darn creepy.

Yeah it's not our OG Chucky but i like what they did with this movie.It would be nice if we get a sequel.

PLOT...Realizing that her son is lonely, Karen brings home a technologically sophisticated Buddi doll named CHUCKY, but Chucky is no innocent toy, he's sinister and his safety restrictions have been disabled, Soon a gruesome series of events unfolds around Karen and Andy. Unable to convince his mum that the doll is responsible for the carnage, Andy becomes the target of the seemingly unstoppable bloodthirsty CHUCKY.This is certainly one of the best horror remakes in a while, the movie keeps what was cool about the 1988 original and modernises it in so many ways, the prime things are there with the doll and the look and style of CHUCKY but with modern technology updates, he's able to cause more trouble than ever before with all our electrical devices at his control, going in this new direction was a risk but works really well on a different level, it would be really good to see how they develop this further into a well deserved sequel. The voice of Chucky has never been more iconic with Mark Hamill doing a fine job! This new version has some cool kills with plenty of blood and gore all done on a decent budget, this movie is great as a stand alone new series without tainting the originals in any way, its cool to see a modernised re-telling of a story about one of our beloved movie maniacs, not many horror movies can get this kind of modern treatment. If you love Chucky of just slasher horror in general this is a great fun watch.The Blu-ray picture is good in HDFeatures are rather lacking though with a few mini featurettes around 11mins total plus a few trailers and a commentary. you also get 2 clay animated shorts 50seconds each.Region FREE ABC, running time 90mins, 2019.Audio: English, Subtitles: English SDH

OK, so I've seen Childs Play 123 and the rest. This particular Childs Play differs from the original quite a bit, but that's not to say it's bad.This time around Chucky is a robot & Andy is a foul mouthed brat (which I don't like).Mark Hamill does a fantastic job of voicing Chucky, as well as the buddi song. I still think Brad Dourif is the true voice of Chucky but Mark has done remarkably well.If you are a purist who likes Brad Dourif I would give the movie a try, then decide if you hate it or not.

Not at all scary but worth a watch if you like the Child's Play films. I bought this for £2.99 but wouldn't have paid more than that.

I really enjoyed this movie, you kinda feel sorry for Chucky in this one and he's kinda cute when not on a mad killing spree lol and it's a pretty funny movie in parts, the movie runs at a pretty fast pace as well. You can't beat the original Chucky but this is a good new take on the character and a fun watch, just try not to compare it to much to the original and just take it for what it is, it's good to not have a total repeat of the original and given fresh new ideas.

I was really surprised by this remake, in a good way. There seems to be so many remakes but this one was really great. They didn't just tell the same story, they wrote a great new script and brought it into 2019 really well with machine learning and AI and alexa style products.The film still keeps an 80's feel while making things new. Also Mark Hamill is great as Chucky. The movie is violent and also very funny in parts. I loved every second of it.

I have been ordering DVD for years,Usually Vendors would replace with a better product. This Group continusly sends out a product that does not work!. And later refuse to refund money! Not good business.
