The Britains Super Deetails toy soldiers are plastic on a metal base. When they use the name Super Deetails, they mean it. These toy soldiers are hand painted and the fine detail is amazing when considering the price per unit. The quality is excellent. I played with the forerunners to these as a child in the 70s. I had saved them all these years and recently gave them to my 5 and 6 year old sons. They had asked for more so I went looking. The newer versions are of such a better quality. The paint detail is exceptional. They have different regiments represented in the line-up, from the Irish Brigade and Berden's Sharpshooters to Confederates in Butternut uniforms. Don't buy these if you are looking for lead soldiers or if you are building a high-end diorama. Britains also makes that quality of toy soldier and they are quite expensive (but worth the cost). These are toys and are meant to be played with. My kids love playing with them and I can use them as a tool for teaching them history. I will definitely be getting them more. Again, I am very impressed with the quality and the very detailed hand painting.
