Heavy on use of essential oils improperly, ingredients for 'recipes' are expensive
This is a cute and well-put together books with gorgeous pictures. However - many of the 'French' tips are extremely stereotypical and nothing new, I could find the same tips easily in Vogue, Allure, or typing in 'French beauty' in Google. While the pictures are beautiful and it's visually stunning, the homemade recipes are a skincare disaster.Take the recipe for homemade eyelash serum - vitamin E oil and castor oil mixed in an old mascara tube. Using both on lashes has been proven a clickbait disaster. Not only that it can lead to eye issues to include a trip to the medical unit if one doesn't use castor oil specifically created for use around the eyes.Next is a recipe for lemon facial scrub using a lemon, gold leaf, and table sugar. Using a lemon on your skin - freshly juiced, is the worst you can do for this 'scrub' and can lead to irritation, burning of the skin, blisters, and lemon juice skincare has also been linked to chemical leukoderma. Another face mask calls for using cognac and egg white on your face. Certain recipes call for ingredients like '1 cup of fresh cut jasmine flowers' or '2 cups of tuberose flowers' like we have these ingredients just laying around or easy to get. My other laughable favorite was using chilled champagne as a face toner and leaving it on your face during the day and night and a red wine bath (yes, pouring red wine literally into your bath). These raw ingredients for the recipes are ridiculously expensive and wasteful. Take this recipe for Jasmine Powder from the book:- French chalk- Fine sieve- Lidded box- Jasmine flowers- 1 to 2 grains civet musk- 1 to 2 grains ambergris- white sugar candy.Ambergris is $35 per gram. PER GRAM! Civet musk is harvested from an animal and will cost upward of $300 for those grains (which is the dried down civet glands) and absolutely illegal to purchase in the USA as well as many other countries. The worst offender is the high amount of essentials oils without proper dilution. You should ideally have 1 ounce of carrier oil to 3-9 drops of essential oil for spot application, but this book recommends dangerous levels of essential oils to carrier oils, enough to give a chemical burn to the face with repeated applications or even a one time use.I half expected the makeup and store bought skincare/haircare to be French companies or at least French pharmacy products, but nope, not even that. Physicians Formula, Burts Bees, philosophy, Moroccan Oil, Clarisonic, First Aid Beauty, etc... In the opening intro it states to throw away your classic French beauty care and buy American labels instead, ones that are 'cool' and 'edgy'. Also, when you read the credits at the end, all the 'Parisian' clothing is from American labels such as ModCloth, Old Navy, Banana Republic, Target, Dr. Scholl's, and Ambercrombie & Fitch. The 'recipe' writer for this book also has a website that touts the benefits of using vodka for skincare and seems to have an obsession with CBD and hemp products. The author of this book is a New England native and still lives there. This is the least 'French' beauty book I've ever encountered. The only reason I gave it two stars instead of one is presentation.

Very informative and fun
I’ve also recently finished The Paris Bath and Beauty Book by Chrissy Callahan and it is as if she wrote this book exclusively for me. It is full of secrets from French Woman on finding that “je ne sais quoi” that they seem to have when it comes to Beauty and Fashion. It is also chock full of amazing, naturally-based, DIY Beauty recipes which I can’t wait to try out.
