The only All-In-One field filter !!!
First & only major cons: - 50 gal filtering capacity vs 250 gal of other (larger) or flushable filter types- Price is as much as those larger filtersPros: *why I keep them on hand & keep buying them for every hiker in my family anyway!!!- The only filter I’ve found that uses a quick disconnect (QD) as a universal connector (with or without a rubber bumper adapter included) , AS THE MOUTH PIECE part. The others are all In-Line & large …in an empty day pack or internal hydro pack loaded first without the need to remove it repeatedly to refill - you can use those . For my full packs & refills - I literally couldn’t fit the pack into the hydo pack sleeve with the in-line installed. Those are best for at camp, gravity filtering or a day back.- Slim / Small design: this is why it’s only 50gal filtering capability.- Integrated bite valve WITH dust cover! Literally have paid $10-15 just for a QD bite valve & cover alone as a deal for my other hydro packs in the past.- Tactical Pro : Filter unscrews & can be replaced, allowing continued use of the bite valve & replacement of the cotton pre-filter debris guards as well!- It also can be used as a quick drinking “straw” type filter with included tube ! And yes, there’s a big name one that does this - and ONLY does this. Or ONLY gravity filters. Or ONLY in-line filters. And still doesn’t do this next item….- Screws onto a standard water bottle mouth & threads!!! Think that smart water type bottle , not cheap disposable ones or the 1L camping bottles …any standard thread / mouth bottle . Cheap, easy to carry & this will become a squeeze filter on top of one like the other big name hiking filter does - but without bags or back flushing kit to carry / use !- Replaceable cotton pre-filters for debris to keep back-flushing requirements down to near zero (except for storage)- You can use it to slow gravity filter inverted as well!!!Does what the others all do , but does it all together, simpler & easier - in a QD bite valve / covered design as a truly ALL-IN-ONE.*My only concerns are if the filter become clogged from extremely cloudy / debris filled water sources, it’s your only mouth piece. I always have a backup to everything I do (water filters, fire, shelter, first aid, signaling, power, etc), so just carry the QD non-filter original mouthpiece / bite valve cover I had with the hydo pack as a back up & sterilize the water , as I do anyway. Pro-Tip: *As seen numerous times, many don’t bother to sterilize, only filtering their water. I hear everyone I run into doing this, but is a bad habit to get into unless it’s your only option. Sterilize always when you can via chlorine tablets (not iodine) , liquid choline drops or boiling (1 min rolling or 3-5 mins as altitude increases above 6,500’ MSL* - *check CDC guidance)! If your filter fails, clogs, leaks, or bypasses & you don’t know it - there’s only one possible outcome. If you sterilize you technically don’t even have to filter except to clear the debris & micro dead organisms out. I’ve also just spent a week with barely ever cloth filtering & sterilizing only without any ill effects at all- and I have a sensitive stomach. The only ones whom got the camp “runs”, where the teen boys that failed to ever wash or sterilize their hands most of the week, against all field hygiene 101 guidance. Yep. The rest of us were perfectly fine, ha. Filter water via hydro pack, water bottle, gravity filter or direct straw filtering …this isn’t cheap, but the most compact & versatile filter I’ve used in the field from Mt Kilimanjaro to the Rocky Mountains, as a QD bite valve with cover as well for storing at night away from critters or freezing !!! Too easy!

Conforme
