Best Easy Day Hikes Grand Staircase--Escalante and the Glen Canyon Region (Best Easy Day Hikes Series)

Really good and helpful listing of hiking and adventures available to the day hiker in Grand Staircase - Escalante. My son and I just returned from a trip to Souther Utah and this book was invaluable in planning our itinerary.The hiking descriptions are thorough and useful in terms of informing the reader of access, difficulty, duration and elevation gain of trails. I had no problem finding the trail heads in this vast and remote national monument thanks to this book. It is also slim enough to easily carry in your backpack.

After previewing this book, I knew I had to have it. I drove past some of the areas outlined in this book July 2013 on the way to Natural Bridges and didn't even know it. Yes, it was hot, but I chose that time of the year on purpose. Now I'm going back this year. This is not the definitive book of the area, the author states the route maps are not intended to replace other maps like Trails Illustrated. I find the sections describing the trails, where to find the trailheads, difficulty, etc. extremely helpful. It's a great addition to the Trails Illustrated map to Grand Gulch and Google Earth on line. Now I know where to find the House on Fire. If you want a simplified explanation of hiking this area, this is the book to get, but don't forget other maps.

This thin paper back is adequate to get you into this area. The area is rather new, and not well mapped anywhere. This was very helpful for determining how difficult it might be to tackle a particular trail hike, what you might encounter, and how difficult it might be.

I am happy to have the book and am reviewing it now. I have not yet tried any of the hikes.

A handy pocket guide with rated hikes for easy to difficult. There were enough easy and more rat hiking choices to keep me happy. The directions to get to the trail heads were clear and concise, as were the descriptions of what we expected to see. I recommend this wpveek.

The book is too vague and the trails are not easy to find. The book doesn't list some of the most popular trails. I found it frustrating to use and actually got lost in 100 degree weather. Not fun.
