Works fine on a Mac, but with a few qualifications.
Looks like it works well on my Mac, a mid-2011 iMac with Sierra 10.12.5. Software downloaded and installed easily. Plugged in the device and it and the Apple Airport wifi were recognized immediately. Wifi connected with no problem. I use Little Snitch firewall/monitor and the seem to coexist just fine.My Mac's internal wifi card has been suspect for several years. After a few hours or minutes, it would claim to be connected at full strength but there was no network access. Had to turn wifi off/on to recover. No software or firmware fixes that I could find would solve the problem, and there were no problems with other devices. So far, this device has stayed connected. It supports the newer "ac" standard (Mac was b/g/n) could potentially be faster, but I'm on satellite which is the limiting factor. I immediately noticed that web pages start to load faster, and unexpected surprise. Measured download speed hasn't changed. Perhaps my internal wifi card was ailing worse than I realized. Some caveats:- Signal reception is good, but less than the original. This is as expected given the tiny size of the device. If you need range, consider one that comes with an external antenna. (This one does not, contrary to one posting that I saw for it).- The negotiated data rate is about half what an adjacent iPad shows and slightly less than an iPhone at the same location. I expect that this is partially a function of the antenna size and resulting signal quality.- This uses its own wifi control thingy, not the MacOSX control. It is a bit simplistic, so there could be a feature that you might miss.- As with all third party devices and software, there is always a potential for issues with on-going support and update timeliness.

and having had StarTech recommended to me by someone who knows about this stuff
My cable internet speed was increased recently from 60 mbps to 160 mbps but my laptop could only achieve the massive increase via an ethernet cable, but the internal wi-fi card couldn't cope. However, who wants to use a laptop with an umbilical cord.Having sourced this on the internet, and having had StarTech recommended to me by someone who knows about this stuff, I gave it a try.It was an extremely competitive price, arrived very quickly, and was a doddle to install. Just stick the accompanying CD in the drive, load up the driver, reboot, and stick the gadget in a USB socket. It was available in seconds (Windows 7), just stuck the password in on the available network (the 5G version) and bingo, 135 mbps download speed, wirelessly. It's narrower that a convensional USB stick, and has a protruding area about the size of a SIM card. Very neat. Haven't tried it at distance yet so can't comment although I did achieve >120 mbps in the adjoining room with a brick wall partition. I believe that the fall-off is greater with 5G than 2.4G.Would definitely recommend

Powerful WiFi For My Old PC
Just updated to a Win 11 Pro HP PC Tower replacing a very old (10 yrs) but still a very Powerful HP PC Tower. I'm moving the old PC to a remote area in the home to make room for the New HP PC Tower and needed WiFi for it since it's not equipped with embedded WiFi capability. Looked around Amazon at several different WiFi Adapters and found this simple yet powerful USB WiFi Receiver. I have to say, I have used USB WiFi sticks, etc., in the past and they were so so, but this model here is Extremely Fast and handles a great deal of Data and Video Streaming with ease!! Could not be happier with the performance and the simplicity of the device, as well as the ease of installation!! I Highly Recommended this StarTec USB WiFi Receiver for folks like myself who just cannot part with an older device, it's like an old friend.... The StarTec WiFi Receiver is FANTASTIC, and my Old PC Greatly Appreciates it!!!!
