Korean Red Chili Pepper Flakes 7 oz. Gochugaru 고추가루

Let me tell you one thing... I was living in Asia, so I definitely know how gochugaru tastes. I love spicy food, but gochugaru in Korea was just too much for me. It was extremely spicy, I couln't taste anything else. This gochugaru is good quality, bright color, nice aroma and it actually HAS a taste! It is not overwhelming you with its spiceness and it adds some charm to your food. I suggest to store it in an airtight container. But if you want the typical super spicy Korean gochugaru, this one is not for you.

You’ll pay more per ounce for this smaller bag of gochugaru than if you picked up a larger bag (different brand) at an Asian grocery, but I’ve come back to this brand because it still makes the best-tasting buchim and doenjang jjigae I’ve ever made. It’s odd that this Thai-sounding brand has outdone the Korean brands I’ve tried, but whatever—I really like this one. And if you don’t use gochugaru often, the smaller bag might suit your needs better.

Made an excellent batch of kimchi! Tastes very authentic, spiciness is mild to moderate, perfect! The recipe I use is the naturally fermented Kimchi recipe on Feasting at Home (google it, I don't think I can include a link) and it works every time.

I really wanted to give four stars because on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 the hottest) I say about 4-5 not too hot, but the product is totally seed free, very uniformly chopped and very very fresh. This is excellent on pizza and Hunan dishes where you require a lot of hot pepper which also makes it kind of safe for the timid, kind of.

I was hoping for this powder to be quite a bit spicier. It's pretty mild, but has great flavor.

Made kimchi with this. Great flavor and spiciness. Cost less and fresher than what's available at supermarket.

This is suppose to be a spicy spice but there is NO FLAVOR

I used this to flavor food. Nice chili taste without too much heat.
